This book covers the most prominent human, animal and supernatural figures of Chinese legend, folklore and religious belief. The entries range from the mythical, such as Pan Ku (creator of the universe) and other celestial beings, through the semi-legendary figures of ancient history, to the pantheon of the Taoists and fables of the Buddhists. The book also includes a general introduction to Chinese mythology, a table of dynasties and a calendar of Chinese commemorative days.
