Dolly Parton stars as Lorna Davis, a singing star overburdened by her career and loneliness. Taking refuge in a friend’s cabin, Lorna discovers the place has been appropriated by seven parentless kids fleeing their orphanage. Lorna and the youngsters agree to keep their mutual escapes secret, but complications develop, thanks to the local witch and the sheriff. Though Lorna finds a friend in Mountain Dan, she still has to face Judge Benton and fight to keep her new family together.
