Josef von Sternberg and Marlene Dietrich concluded their seven-film collaboration withThe Devil Is a Woman, adapted from the novel by Pierre Lous. Dietrich plays Conchita, a cigarette factory girl turnedfemme fataleliving in Spain. Her current beau is Antonio (Cesar Romero,Donovans Reef), but Don Pasqualito (Lionel Atwill,Doctor X), an older man, has never stopped loving her A fitting swansong, this beautifully realised romance won Lucien Ballard the award for Best Cinematography at the 1935 Venice Film Festival.
