Seaweed’s Sentiment and

Seaweed’s Sentiment is Julie Blitzer’s first book: a collection of 35 haiga (haiku poetry combined with photographs taken by the author). The compilation is organized into five sectionsAcknowledging, Awakening, Believing, Expanding, and Remembering, each containing seven haiku. The poems’ seventeen syllables convey reflections and expressions of what Julie believes to be true, particularly about personal development. Most of the images are of nature, but others are ordinary scenes or objects that inspired Julie. Given the haiku’s brevity, readers can enjoy this book in one sitting, or in smaller doses over time. With this book, Julie hopes to make poetry accessible and useful, and serve as a reminder of Elizabeth Gilbert’s assertion that, “creativity is the place where torment drops away.” Seaweed’s Sentiment makes a wonderful gift, especially for those who appreciate easily-digestible musings about the human experience.
